THE UFFORD GATHERING 4th Apr 2026

The Ufford Gathering is always a favourite starter for the season and this year’s event did not disappoint. With the usual eclectic variety of makes and models, and a strong showing of Talbots, the crowd was treated to a fine show.

It’s also a chance to get the cars out, many for the first time in the year, for a little gentle exercise and to meet like-minded friends and new acquaintances. This year, as always on Foppe d’Hane’s home turf, Talbot were well represented.

Pat Laverack attended with an enthusiastic family group – not only the next generation, but the next generation but one – enjoyed the day with her highly original BI105 Airline. Pat was collecting the car after some work by Foppe.

From nearby Bury St Edmunds, Stephen Lee’s white Talbot 90 Brooklands replica looked good in the sunshine.

The crowd was treated to a quartet of Talbot Vanden Plas Tourers: Dick Wenley made a good impression with his nicely presented AW90 VdP in British Racing Green, and David James’s ex-Tom Whatton AV105 VdP in the same colour made for a fine visually matching pair. The AV105 VdP of David Sharp was of the slightly later design with the scalloped door tops. David really is local, living as he does in Woodbridge, just up the road from Ufford. And lastly, my AV105 VdP made its first appearance after a lengthy engine rebuild – I’m glad to report it went perfectly, 100 miles each way, and worth every minute.

The selection of cars was broad, the weather held and I enjoyed one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten, cooked at  the pub’s outside kitchen. It was a great day out.
