This will be a tour of the delightful region ‘in the Footsteps of the Shrewsburys’ and is in two parts; you can do one or the other or both. The hotels have been carefully chosen - Llangoed Hall Hotel is particularly special - and there is lots to see and do. This is the provisional plan:
Event 1 (two nights)
July 7 motoring on Cannock Chase with tea at Ingestre Hall home of “our” Lord Shrewsbury and then to the Mytton and Mermaid Hotel, Shrewsbury, for 2 nights. Dinner, bed and breakfast at £150 for 2 people per night. www.myttonandmermaid.co.uk Tel: 01743 761220
Event 2 (four-night tour of the Welsh Marches)
July 8 free to explore. Suggestions – drive to Lakes Bala and Vrnwy and local steam railways and mountain roads if you wish; Shrewsbury itself, Attingham Park, Ironbridge, RAF Cosford, etc.
July 9 motor through the Marches to Llangoed Hall near Hay on Wye on the edge of the Brecon Beacons (described as Britain’s most romantic hotel). Dinner, bed and breakfast at £200 for 2 people. www.llangoedhall.co.uk Tel: 01874 754525
July 10 head south to the Golden Valley Monmouth and to Goodrich Castle – ancestral home of the Talbots. Overnight at the Chase Hotel, Ross-on-Wye. Dinner, bed and breakfast at £150 for 2 people. It should be possible to extend your stay here if you wish. www.chasehotel.co.uk Tel: 01989 763161
July 11 visit to the Morgan Motor Company and then home.
We have provisionally booked space for 8-10 rooms. You can choose to participate in all or part of the tour.
Please advise soonest if you’d like to take part to James Fack 01922 414432 or Guy Gregory 07795 218001 and you will then need to book your own rooms with the various hotels, mentioning that you are part of the T.O.C party.
Further details will follow in due course.
