The Home of Pre-War London Talbots

Le Mans Classic 2022 30th Jun 2022

Over the weekend of 21st/22nd June 1930, PL3 and PL4, the two Talbot AO90s, achieved a spectacular result in the Le Mans 24-hour race, beating every other car except two Bentleys driven by power packs almost three times the size of the diminutive 90. PL3, crewed by Lewis and Eaton, was the outright winner on Index of Performance. Now, ninety-two years later, in July 2022, we anticipate seeing all three of the famous 90s returning to the Sarthe circuit, with plans for PL2, PL3 and PL4 all to be taking part in Plateau 1, the pre-war grid.

With the provisional entry list carried forward from 2020, we have an amazing spectacle ahead of us, with no fewer than eight famous Talbots in Plateau 1. Who could forget 2018’s one-two, with Gareth Burnett in GO52 just beating Michael Birch in JJ93 on the last lap of a shortened and thrilling final session, with BGH21 coming home in 7th place. All three return this year. Also lining up are Chris Lunn in GO53, celebrating the belated 90th anniversary of 3rd place overall in the 1931 race, and Nick Pellett in GO54, a car that repeated GO53’s 3rd overall place in 1932.

If you get my gist, this will be a weekend of historic motor-racing like no other. The latest news is that the event has been extended, with the circuit opening on Thursday afternoon, 30th June. A new addition this year is the race for Global Endurance Legends cars, which opens the door to a new era for this iconic meeting. With the arrival of this grid the event now covers the history of the Le Mans 24 Hours from 1923 to 2013! Don’t miss it – we are in for a real treat!
