FOR SALE & WANTED

1927 2916cc Talbot 20/60 Boat Tail Tourer

Reg. No. DF 6757

Chassis No. D20-19383

Engine No. 396

A truly unique car whose recent known history starts in the 1970s when the chassis was rescued from a farmyard near Sheffield with the remaining parts having been stored in a local barn. The Talbot Production & Sales Record reveals that chassis 19383 was originally sent to Cheltenham & Gloucester Car Mart Ltd in September 1928 although the Darracq bodied 2 seater had been assembled some 8 months prior. A restoration project was embarked upon by noted Talbot specialist Bill Barrott who completely rebuilt the engine, gearbox and rear axle. The bodywork was built by noted specialist Peter Plunkett and completed by Bill Barrott. The current custodian became involved in 2002 with much finishing work. The chassis was worked on further with newly cast brake drums and new king pins, the body was inspired by the 1924 Park Ward Sunbeam of the period and the beautifully created decked boat tail carries a seat compartment creating the clover leaf tourer body.

Standing as testament to the builders skills this imposing car utilises all of the correct period components and is finished in Oxford and Cambridge Blue. At over 16 feet this is a vehicle with presence which the owner describes as "large, comfortable, swift and exhilarating to drive" stating that the straight 6 engine propels it in fine style and 60mph is very easily obtained. He further adds that the cable operated drums mean that 45-55mph would be a wiser choice in anything other than a track situation. Superbly presented with a full complement of instruments and a period matching set of Rotax lamps the Gloucestershire registered Talbot has hardly ever been shown and is only occasionally used on pub runs, a real head turner that will surely be welcome at some of the best car events in the country and beyond. Offered for sale with a pictorial record of the build, file of various documents and current V5C documentation.
