THE DATES HAVE CHANGED TO 15TH/ 16TH/ 17TH SEPTEMBER 2017
Friday 15th September
Meet at Burghley Park (just south of Stamford) for a picnic lunch or a meal in the restaurant, hopefully joined by the local TOC pub meet ‘Mafia’. Spend the afternoon looking round Burghley House, or wander into Stamford, or take a scenic drive around Rutland Water to our accommodation.
Saturday 16th September.
A ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the Nene Valley Railway workshops, followed by a buffet lunch on a train (hopefully steam powered) travelling to Peterborough. In Peterborough take a tour of the Cathedral, one of the hidden gems of the Fens (this can be an ordinary tour or, if you can cope with heights, a roof top tour). This can be followed by shopping or a visit to the recently revamped Museum. Travel back by train consuming a cream tea. There will be charges for these tours.
Sunday 17th September.
Drive the scenic ‘Triangular Tour’ that I devised for the VSCC’s 80th Anniversary. This is a circular route of about 80 miles but with several options to make it shorter or longer. There are many places of interest to visit along the route. Depending on the weather, either a picnic or pub lunch. After lunch, either depart for home or continue on the tour, spending Sunday night at the guest house, leaving for home on Monday morning.
Accommodation is at the Castle Farm Guest House, Fotheringhay, www.castlefarm-guesthouse.co.uk, telephone 01832 226200. We will eat at The Falcon which is a 200 yard walk. Some of you may remember the excellent meal we had at The Falcon during the VSCC’s 80th celebrations.
Action to take, don’t delay as the rooms are filling fast!
Phone the guest house to make your reservation, mentioning the TOC (Don’t book on-line)
If the guest house is full, ask me for an alternative.
