TALBOT OWNERS' CLUB
V.S.C.C. SeeRed - Donington Park September 2004

Peter Swete with many TOC members who supported GX68 to win a
fantastic 3rd place in the AON sponsored concours.

VSCC SeeRed race meeting at Donington Park not only featured some great racing, but also a car club concours competition sponsored by AON Ltd offering the chance for car clubs to be involved in one of the most lucrative concours competitions in the UK with a total prize fund of £4,000. Each club presented one car in the spirit of the marque to enter meaning it didn't have to be strictly as it rolled off the production line, it may be a competition variant, a car used daily or a vehicle which complies with the normal concours d’elegance regulations.

18 clubs entered and the TOC was represented by Peter Swete with GX68 - a favorite Talbot of many TOC members.
Following the rules GX68 is certainly a competition car - from when it was built by Talbot in 1930 the car raced as a single single seater before being converted in 1934 to the form it is today and the actual cup as presented to Earl Howe and Brian Lewis for 4th place overall, first in class at the Brooklands 500 was displayed. Only the evening before the concours event Peter and other Talbot owners were racing in the 3 hour team relay race for which overall they came 6th.

It was with great anticipation that Talbot Owners awaited the results from the VSCC President, Peter Glover. The winner, receiving a £2500 prize for the club went to the Jaguar Owners' Club with a '65 Daimler 2.5 V8. Second, receiving a £1000 prize was awarded to the Alfa Romeo Owners Club, but in third position receiving a £500 prize....wait for it ... went to the Talbot Owners Club represented by Peter. The cheer from the members present also completely outdid the rather more sedate applause for first and second - quite a moment for the club and the members.

Talbots were also involved providing 6 TOC cars for the VSCC at lunchtime to collect and deliver track marshals - probably the first time that so many Talbots have been on the Donington circuit at the same time (albeit not competitively). Also Martin Bryant and James Fack flew the TOC flag on the Saturday and provided the course car for the event. Norman Pemberton volunteered to be on the commentary team during the weekend.

The good news is that this event will be repeated again next year, maybe we can better 3rd place??????
